Stephen writhed helplessly, but Cutter held him fast.

“Hold on,” Cutter said. Distantly, people were yelling. This was the ARC, Stephen realized vaguely. “Please.”

But Stephen had held on so long, he’d fought so hard. He’d got what he wanted.

Maybe that was enough. He’d never believed in signs -- the alignment of stars, the full moon, the arrangement of planets -- but his acceptance was almost spiritual.

Nick jostled him. “Stephen.”

Stephen smiled. “It’s okay,” he murmured.

“Stephen,” Cutter begged.

“Thank you,” Stephen breathed as everything dimmed. The darkness rose, and Stephen sank into Nick’s grasp with a smile.

LOL, it sort of amuses me to think about spending almost a year writing a fix it just to let Stephen die in the end. I think it's unlikely at this point.
