Title: Promises

Disclaimer: I do not own Primeval.

A/N: The prompt was to the ends of the earth. My take is actually not Stephen/Nick for once! Rather, this is pre-series Nick/Helen.

Summary: “I’ll go anywhere with you. Anywhere at all.”

“Marry me,” Nick said.

Helen was young and in love, but she wasn’t stupid. “No.”

“Oh, come on,” he cajoled. “It’ll be fun.”

“I want a career,” she said.

“I want you to have a career.”

She eyed him skeptically. “You say that now…”

“We’ll have careers together,” he enthused.

“But expeditions…”

“We’ll go together!”

She was dubious.

“To the ends of the earth,” he promised. He was earnest now. “I’ll go anywhere with you. Anywhere at all.”

But in the following years, Helen went and Nick didn’t follow. She broke promises, but, to her, Nick broke that one first.

Good one! :-D Alas, I fear it was doomed from the start...

It probably never did have a chance. Thanks!

Love the punch this one packs! Poor earnest Nick and Helen being cynical - I can really see this

It would be interesting to have seen them before things went so horribly wrong. The breakdown of a marriage is rarely just one person's fault, although Helen makes a compelling case to the contrary. Thanks :)

Cool drabble! I've always thought that professional tensions must have played into their split!

It certainly seemed like it had to have some impact -- they were both so focused, so sure they were right. They probably never had much chance.

Thanks!

Great look at the start of Helen and Nick's relationship, and how naive they were (at least Nick was).

It's always interesting to think about how things started when we've seen the less than ideal ending. Thanks!
