Summary: Stephen always knew this would destroy everything: that’s the thing that’s not different at all.

It’s different.
Connor doesn’t joke with him; they talk, but Stephen’s advice doesn’t mean much.
Abby’s entirely professional; there’s just silence, and it’s more awkward than asking her out on his deathbed.
Lester never paid him much heed, but Stephen’s got everything to prove and no justifiable means to do so.
Jenny Lewis doesn’t know a thing about him; she fancies Cutter, though, so she seems to know Stephen’s the expendable one.
Cutter says they can forget, move on. Stephen wants to believe him, but he always knew this would destroy everything: that’s the thing that’s not different at all.
