Title: To Shoot or Not to Shoot

Disclaimer: I do not own any of this stuff.

A/N: I apologize if it seems like I’m dragging this out. This bit of dialogue was in my head half a year ago and it seemed wrong to get this far and not use it. Part of the Kept drabble series.

Summary: Stephen had never been good at Shakespeare.

-o-

It was positively Shakespearean: to shoot or not to shoot?

Stephen released the safety.

"This is it, then?" she asked unflinchingly. "Was all our time together just a show?"

Stephen wavered. He remembered their first kiss, her lips crushing his protests. He remembered confessing his love, desperate for reciprocation that never came. He remembered how she'd walked away repeatedly, leaving him each time more broken than the last.

"I don't know," he replied. "You tell me."

Her lips curled up darkly.

To shoot or not to shoot.

Stephen had never been good at Shakespeare.

He was even worse with Helen.
