Summary: There’s a chance to make things right.

Cutter has never been one for belief.
But now, in the intensive care unit, Cutter has to wonder. In the bed, Stephen hardly looks human. Most of his body is wrapped in gauze, hiding the deep bites and claw marks that crisscross his body. He lost a kidney and his bowels are barely stitched together. His shredded lungs can’t breathe on their own yet, and the blood that pumps his heart is hardly his own.
But still, his heart beats. Air moves through his lungs. There’s a chance to make things right.
So Cutter sits, holds Stephen’s hand, and believes.
