Primeval drabble: Gain Enough

Title: Gain Enough

Disclaimer: I do not own Primeval.

A/N: Another one for [livejournal.com profile] primeval100, with the prompt no pain, no gain. Beta provided by [livejournal.com profile] sendintheklowns, though this is not Brit-proofed.

Spoilers: Set post 2.07 (AU)

Summary: Stephen refuses the pain medication.

-o-

Near-weekly surgeries leave Stephen depleted. His skin itches, breaking easily after being stretched too thin over still healing gashes. It’s three weeks before he can sit up properly. It’s two months before his legs bear any weight. Even then, the simple act of standing reduces him to tears.

Stephen refuses the pain medication, throwing out the pills when the nurses aren’t looking. Cutter says he’s being stupid, that he should just accept the help.

“No pain, no gain,” Stephen replies, teeth gritted.

The fact that Nick’s still there, despite what Stephen’s done, is gain enough, no matter what the pain.

I'd go 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek' but at least you've kept him alive! *G*

The suffering, the stubbornness!

Love the end line and I am so very glad that Nick is there for him.

Yay for a fixit and a stubborn Stephen.

Ouch, that was rather intense! But silly Stephen, for needlessly suffering like that!

And nice set up for an intense Stephen and Nick scene. I like it.

*hugs Stephen*

Super drabble, that last line especially is just perfect :-)

eep, poor Stephen.

Poor Stephen! At least he's recovering, though.

Great drabble.

Oh, eek, poor Stephen.

Erk! Why suffer more? *smacks Stephen, inflicting more pain, but hopefully also some sense*

darn you, Faye.

*repeats to self* "I will not watch primeval. I will not watch primeval. I will not watch primeval...."

Ouch, stubborn Stephen. I'm glad Nick is being there for him.

Heh, yeah, sometimes my drabbles can go either way. You've been a good influence on me in that regard but sometimes my muse insists on canon (and ANGST!).

I can see Stephen as self-flaggelating in the aftermath. If only he'd survived so we could find out!

Thanks :)

Two of my favorite things :)

Thanks!

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes Stephen strikes me as the type who does things the hard way.

Thanks!

Stephen and Nick scenes are my favorite. Thanks!

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He could probably use it, even if he'd be reluctant to accept.

Thanks :)

Thanks :)

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems to be a recurring them in my writing.

Thanks!

Surviving is most of the battle in Stephen's case.

Thanks!

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

Thanks :)

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, he can be rather dense sometimes, even with the best of intentions.

Thanks!

(And every time I see that icon, I want to write an h/c scene for 1.01.)

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You SO want to. I mean, you deal with ghosts and angels on SPN, how much worse can dinosaurs and insects be?

Plus, ANGST!

LOL, thanks for reading, though :) I can recommend some longer fics if you want to get acclimated....

[identity profile] faye-dartmouth.livejournal.com 2012-04-30 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He does have sort of a stupidly stubborn streak.

Thanks!

worse. much worse. ;)

*mumbles to self* "I refuse to get sucked in. I refuse to get sucked in. I refuse..."
