Title: Where The Heart Is

Disclaimer: I do not own Primeval.

A/N: The prompt was the way to a man’s heart . Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lena7142 for the beta.

Warning: Canon character death!

Summary: Over the years, others tried finding his heart.

Stephen had been half in love with Helen from the start. Her passion overwhelmed him; her focus awed him. She found the way to his heart, then took it, playing with it before leaving it behind her like all the rest.

Over the years, others tried finding it. Allison dated him for years. Abby flirted with him even after his antics. They both looked but they couldn’t find it.

Stephen suspected no one could. So when the predator ripped open his chest, he was surprised to see the throbbing heart bleed out because it had been hidden there all along.

Brilliant and sad. Last line is a killer. *scuttles back to Denial*

Denial is a much happier place than canon.

OK, you have used up your Death Card for the next three months with this one. Only happy ones for the next three months, got it?

The angst...

Three months! That's a long time for my muse to stay happy. I had a pretty good run until this one, though, didn't I?

Thanks :)

Three months. Because you ended the 'good run' in such a graphic, unget-outable away. *pauses* Stephen was just having an nightmare, and Nick will now wake him up!

LOL, yeah, a dream sequence would work. And just because his chest is ripped open, I suppose he might still live...it's unlikely, but maybe with some intervention from the future?

Yeah, okay, this one was pretty dark. I rewrote this like three times trying to find a fic worth sharing and this one was the darkest but the most readable.

That is brilliant. Tragic, but brilliant.

I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one who lost it reading this...

Beautiful. Reflective, and then suddenly brutal and heartbreaking (no pun intended) with that brilliant and devastating twist. I love the juxtaposition of the figurative and literal heart.

I still am sorry for not warning you!

And thank you! I'm really glad the contrast worked in the end.

I never mean for the fics to get quite so dark but my muse does what it will.

Thanks :)
